There was hope that the beautiful Duchess of Cambridge might wear the Queen's beautiful wattle brooch on her tour here. I don't think that she has worn it yet.
Menzies, the Australian Prime Minister, presented the enchanting brooch to the Queen on her tour here in 1954 after the Commonwealth Banquet. This gift from Australia designed by the jeweller Paul Schneller has 150 yellow and blue white diamonds representing wattle flowers and mimosa and tea-tree leaves. It was then worth about 25,000 pounds. The Queen has worn her beloved brooch on several occasions.
